How I Turned My Love for Dogs into Financial Freedom 🐶

Working from home, with no team, products, software - nothing...
If you do the math, that's close to £500k :)
I did this at 30y.o having left my corporate finance career, with 0 employees or contractors — until I was making more than £100k a year.
I then hired a friend after I was already at 6-figures a year in revenue.
On this page, I want to share what I did step-by-step.
Why Am I Sharing This?
My business received an acquisition offer, so I am thinking on what to do next if I move forward with that.Secondly, this business literally changed my life. I used to want to work for someone else and climb the corporate ladder when I was in my 20s — fast forward to now becoming a financial free 30 year old, doing what I want, when I want.
If sharing this can do the same for a dozen other people, it's worth sharing.
My Background
At 18 I left for University (College for you Americans) then at 24 I finished my masters in forensic anthropology.But I didn't follow that road, I fell back into an office job because they promised an exciting career, money and all the benefits - sound familiar?
At 30, I was burnt out, my relationship suffered. I felt like I was treading water and didn't know what to do. I was unhappy. The only thing that mattered to me at that point was my puppy. He was that little light looking up at me everyday.
I wished I could just spend all day with him - then it clicked! I could and I could get paid for looking after other dogs.
1) Start small, less risk, make sure you enjoy it
This could completely change your life for the better - like with anything in life, make sure you set a strong foundation to grow from.
To be able to make tens of thousands in income, you need to get the basics right.
Find one client, work with them for a few weeks (weekdays, weekends, holidays) - make sure you learn and adapt to working with animals - make sure you are ready to add the right next client to the pack so to speak!
Where I see people fail is trying to take on every client and don't have the routine and skillset to handle things when things get tricky.
The great thing is that this works in almost any country. And most, don't have any real competition because they are just winging it.
2) Grow smart, get feedback
Once you've gotten the hang of handling one dog, add more clients slowly.
I had to make sure that each dog reacted well to the new addition - this creates the right pack to look after. The right pack creates less stress for you and more fulfilment for your client's pups.
This is where you start to see more money coming in and it can be tempting to add multiple dogs at once. I actually have a complete client onboarding process I can share to make sure you cover all bases.
Depending on the dog (size, breed, etc.) and the type of fulfilment the dog needs will depend on how much I charge per day. It could be £45 or £90. You only need a few dogs a day to be making over £3,500 per month from your home.
This is where you can really start building your financial freedom, with 6 dogs (totally manageable) that could mean £7,000 per month.
Let's break it down:
1 dog £50 per day x 5 days a week x 4 weeks = £1,000 per month
5 dogs a week = £5,000 per month
Overheads? less than £250/month
PROFIT = £,4500
This meant that I could pay rent, structure my week the way I wanted to, do the things I never had time for when I worked for someone else.
I made sure I was seeing the right things - no reactivity, no headaches of clients/dogs, manageable and still fun. My business was giving me the right feedback to go further.
I also made sure that my clients were giving me the right feedback so I could build stronger, lasting relationships with them and also get my name out there for new business when I wanted it.
3) Build a brand - get your time back
You have a roster of quality, loyal clients generating revenue every month.
You've identified the best clients that you enjoy working with. You have a process and a reputation that allows you to get new clients whenever you want.
This is where I am at right now.
I can work whenever I want, but I can also have my time back. That's real financial freedom.
I brought in a friend to help me look after more dogs, I can take time off without loosing money.
If I want to go out for dinner to my favourite restaurant, I can go. If I want to take a trip to a random country next week, I can go.
Does this actually work?
I'm the case study. This is how I've made hundreds of thousands of £/$ with, to be honest, little experience in building a business from nothing.

You're not all-in. Any business requires your full-time attention or focus.

What to do if you want to learn more?
The steps outlined here are very “high-level” and there are many nuances to them. I've learned a lot in the past 4 years.
What sucks is that I had to do most of it on my own.
I just wish I had someone when I was starting, who can shorten my time to success from 4 years to 6 months.
